Healing power of singing bowls
Tibetan singing bowls have been used for centuries in Nepal and Tibet to promote relaxation, meditation, and healing. These bowls produce harmonic overtones that can balance energy fields and calm the nervous system. Their vibrations are believed to facilitate physical healing and emotional release, making them a staple in many sound therapy sessions.
Singing bowls can be metal or crystal, and produce resonant tones and overtones for relaxation and chakra balancing, and quiet the mind, balance energy centres, and restore harmony within. They can be played by striking the side with a mallet as they are also known as bells or circling the rim, creating a sustained vibration and an overtone-rich sound.
Benefits of the two types of bowl:
Himalayan/Metal: Multi-tonal, complex, earthy sound. Made of a blend of metals (usually 7 - Iron, Copper, Zinc, Brass, Mercury, Gold, and Silver). Often used for grounding and chakra balancing.
Crystal: Pure, clear, sustained tone. Associated with specific chakras and musical notes (e.g., C for Root, D for Sacral). More focused and direct.
As a practitioner I might place them on or around the body to address specific energy blockages or areas of tension, or play them over the body. They can also be used in meditation to guide the mind to a state of stillness.
Vibroacoustic therapy: Applying low-frequency sound vibrations directly to the body to reduce pain and promote relaxation.
Psychoacoustic therapy: When the sound goes into the brain through the ear.
Binaural beat therapy: Listening to two slightly different frequencies to create a perceived tone and it can influence brainwaves and promote relaxation or focus. An example of this could be playing two frequencies of 100Hz and 110Hz and the brain hears a third frequency of 10Hz ie the difference between the two frequencies.
